Updated Information for Parents and Carers

Parents, carers and students can now access updated information regarding the NSW Government and MDPS' response to the COVID-19 response – along with login information in order to access student work and teacher communications at home.

Dear Parents/ Carers

We would like to thank you for your support and flexibility during this challenging time. As you are probably aware schools remain open, however, parents are being encouraged to keep their children at home. Children will be marked as ‘on leave’ during this time. Please notify us if your child is sick and we can adjust the roll as necessary.

At this point we are expecting around 30% – 50% of students to still attend school, which would mean that social distancing would work in each class. Students will not be involved in group work and will be remaining in the same seat. Each class is being fitted today with hand sanitiser dispensers and students are encouraged to wash hands regularly.

As of Tuesday, 24/3/20, students will be emailed the next three weeks’ worth of work to be done at home. Please find instructions on the reverse of this letter on how to access your child’s email. Your child’s booklet will include all the information you need to help your child at home including a suggested daily timetable and online learning resources. You can then open the attachment and print the booklet for your child. Alternatively, you can call the school and ask for the booklet to be posted to your address or arrange a time for you to come and pick up the work from the front office. We are scheduling these pickups to encourage social distancing in the office so please don’t drop in. We also have blank work booklets for children to write in. Please let us know if you require one in the post or when you come to pick it up. Students that attend school will take their books home daily in case they need to stay at home the following day. Please ensure that your child returns to school with this booklet each day. If working from home, please ensure that your child only completes the task identified by your classroom teacher each day

The main form of communication will be via student email. Classroom teachers will attend to emails three times a day, at 9am, 12pm and 2.30pm. Classroom teachers will email students each morning to remind them of what work is required for the day. Parents and students can email teachers and ask for support, guidance and feedback. Limited staff will be available to answer your questions during the day via phone. Please understand that teachers may not be able access the phone during class time and there are only two lines open to the school and they become very busy, making it difficult to get through.

The staff at MDPS thank you for your support and cooperation.

Kind regards,

Staff at Mount Druitt Public School
